If you are travel with kids, this information about where are the Tamarros in Andorra, will come in handy. Let’s get to know this magical legend together with them!
Andorra is an ideal country for experiencing nature in its purest form.
Hiking trails abound in the country, taking you through lush forests, over stunning mountain viewpoints and past waterfalls hidden in the vegetation.
If you are used to travel with your kids to small and big cities, you may not know if they can withstand trekking (even you may be overwhelmed).
But Andorra makes it easy for you.
In order for you to get to know each of the seven parishes or provinces of the country, their infinite valleys and all their natural beauty, they have contacted “the Tamarros“. Each of them is assigned a special task, which is to look after each of these provinces.
And the truth is, we think it is a spectacular idea for those children or families who are not used to walking on mountain trails.
Finding the tamarros is an incentive to get to know each region, but also to be aware, as a family, of the impact we make when we travel.

What are the Tamarros? The legend 🙂
The tamarros are magical beings that guard and protect each of the seven provinces of Andorra from a very evil troll called Dirt. She is bent on destroying and dirtying everything.
They do not live on this earth with us, but have their home in a parallel fantasy world. It is the children who help the tamarros to cross into this world through portals by leaving a pebble in a specific place at the back. This gives them the strength to continue protecting the mountain and the forest.
To get to the tamarros you have to take a short walk following the arrows.
❤️ Practical information that can help you in your planning: we did all the trails to look for the tamarros with Benjamin, who was 5 years old, and with Felicitas, who was less than 1 year old. It was at the end of JUNE. We had no special footwear. Feli is carried in a carrier backpack.

How many Tamarros are there?
In total, there are 7 tamarros in Andorra. It is one for each province of this small but beautiful country.
- Lau of Sant Julià de Lòria
- Nilo of Canillo
- Enko of Encamp
- Dino of Ordino
- Massa of La Massana
- Andy of Andorra la Vella
- Caldes of Escaldes-Engordany
This way, by finding all the tamarros you make sure you have been to each of them.

Where do you get passports or books to collect the tamarros?
These books are available at the Tourist Offices in each of the cities.
If you want to do as we did and go and see the tamarro Lau first, as soon as you cross the border between Spain and Andorra by car, there is a Tourist Office. It is located after leaving the first roundabout, on the right hand side. But further on, in Sant Julià de Lòria, just before going up to see Lau, there is another office.
Offices are usually closed on Sunday afternoons. So if it happens to you like us that we found all the offices closed, don’t worry, take your photos with the tamarros and then you can discuss it at the end with the tourist office.
⚠️ At the Tourist Office you can also get other books to play with the family, such as “The Potion of the Witch Quela”, “Where are the mushrooms?” and the “Forest of the Menairons”. But they are for older ages (perhaps for those over 10 years old).

The magic seals in the book, a must-have
Once you find where the tamarros are in Andorra, next to each one of them, there is a sign that explains the particular history of that tamarro, what it likes to protect and its most valuable qualities.
Below, you will find the punch-based clocking system. Dino’s was broken, so we took a photo of it to show at the Tourist Office so they could fix it (and to show it here too).

MAP Where are the Tamarros in Andorra?
On the map below you can see the locations where you can easily find the tamarros and where you can park.
Please note that there is no roaming in Andorra, so you will not be able to use Google Maps on the fly, but will have to mark all locations in advance.
📷 If you are one of those who can’t go without internet and need a SIM card, you can buy one from HolaFly here.
If you don’t want to use the internet during your trip, we recommend you to use Maps.me, which is an app where you have to download the map beforehand and you can use it as a GPS offline. In any case, it is best to mark the location of the tamarros in advance so as not to waste time.
Here is a description of each one and a series of indications on how to find the tamarros:
1) Lau of Sant Julià de Lòria
This was the first tamarro we visited as soon as we entered Andorra, which protects the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria. To get to this tamarro you have to follow the signs to the Naturlandia park, but you will find it before you get there.
There is parking space right next to some picnic areas and fountains. Cross the road, go up a gentle slope and just after an esplanade you can see it in the distance. You may begin to realise that where the tamarros are in Andorra are special places.
What to put in the GPS?
- Google Maps: Font de la Comabella.
- Maps.me: Coma Bella Hotel. This is a reference, the hotel is a few metres after the access to the tamarro.

2) Andy of Andorra la Vella
It is perhaps the tamarro that is furthest from the road or from where the car is parked, although it is not at all complicated to get there, it is just a simple walk up a gravel road. It’s only a few minutes. There he waits for you, sitting in a corner Andy.
A further 100 metres further on is the Bosc Negre viewpoint, which has a beautiful view of Andorra La Vella.
What to put in the GPS?
- Google Maps: Tamarro Andy. It is mapped at the beginning of the road, where the car is left. In reality, you have to keep walking a little further behind the barrier.
- Maps.me: Urbanització Comella Parc.

3) Caldes the Tamarro of Escaldes-Engordany
Caldes is in the middle of the forest and the path leading to it is beautiful. It is part of a very well signposted circuit that also includes the Circuit de les Fonts viewpoint.
Nearby, the Engolasters lake is also worth a visit. From here you can also follow the route of Witch Quela’s Potion, because not everything is about knowing where the tamarros are in Andorra. If you are travelling with older children, there is even more fun for them.
What to put in the GPS?
- Google Maps: Aparcament de les Fonts | Engolasters.
- Maps.me: Aparcament Comunal de Les Fonts.

4) Nilo of the parish of Canillo
Nile is the only tamarro for which you don’t have to walk because it is next to the road. It is just a few kilometres from the famous Roc del Quer viewpoint, so you can take advantage of this visit to stop by.
What to put in the GPS?
- Google Maps: Tamarro Nilo. It is mapped on Google Maps and can be seen without getting out of the car.
- Maps.me: Nilo (Tamarro).

5) Enko of the parish of Encamp
The way up to Enko winds its way through mountain villages, among which you will pass Sant Felip and Sant Jaume dels Cortals. There is a very modern stone church there and, if you go down and pass by it, you will find the Bosc de les Allaus viewpoint.
Enko is located next to a picnic area with a barbecue. Finding the tamarros is still an adventure.
What to put in the GPS?
- Google Maps: Àrea d’esbarjo Camí Pleta dels Orris
- Maps.me: Prat dels Orris, where the route ends, but the tamarro is before it.

6) Dino of the parish of Ordino
This tamarro is the furthest on the map, on the way to the Tristiana Lakes. You will not see it at first, but have to walk along the esplanade in the direction of the picnic areas.
What to put in the GPS?
- Google Maps: Planell d’Encodina.
- Maps.me: Berenador del Planell d’Encodina.

7) Massa of the parish of La Massana
Tamarro Massa is situated in a beautiful location by the river Pollós. Depending on where you take the road to get there, it can be easier or more difficult.
To take the easy way you have to see that there is a path right next to the tunnel you have passed to go to the car park. It makes a small curve and then goes straight to the tamarro. As for the difficult path, look for the beginning of the Comapedrosa Interpretative Circuit and go up through slippery rocks and forest along the river. We went for the hard one and came back for the easy one.
What to put in the GPS?
- Google Maps; Communal Natural Park of the Comapedrosa Valleys.
- Maps.me: Font del Riu Pollos.

Itinerary to find the tamarros in 4 days
This is how we visited Andorra and this is, in a nutshell, what we did.
- Day 1 – Lau: This tamarro is the closest to the Spanish border. It is also close to Naturlandia, a nature park famous for the Tobotronc (a log on a rail with which you can slide down the mountain). So I recommend that you visit Lau as soon as you enter Andorra (but not before getting your passport stamped) or if you are going to visit Naturlandia.
- Day 2 – Andy and Caldes: they are the closest to Andorra La Vella, so you can visit them when you are visiting the country’s capital. Also that day we visited the Engolasters Lake.
- Day 3 – Enko and Nilo: In the morning, since we were already trained, we did a one hour trekking in the Incles Valley. Then we went to see the Meritxel Sanctuary and we went to visit Enko. Then we went to the Roc del Quer viewpoint, but not before passing by where Nilo was.
- Day 4 – Massa and Dino: To get to where these tamarros are you have to cross under the mountains into another valley using the Dos Valires Tunnel. Here we take the opportunity to visit the beautiful mountain village of Pal and do the Iron Route.

What happens when you find the Tamarros?
When you visit each of the Tamarros, don’t forget to stamp the “Find the Tamarro” book that you will have been given at one of the Andorran Tourist Offices. Each has its own special “seal” or “magic marker” and is located next to each of them. The children can also draw their own Tamarro and dream of caring for this natural paradise.
Once you have completed the book, you will have to go to an Andorra Tourist Office again and, after checking that the book is complete, they will give the child a gift.
Benja was given a Tamarros domino which he plays with a lot.

Practical information for your trip to Andorra
Where to stay to see all the Tamarros?
Andorra is a small country and easy to travel around. We stayed in El Tarter to travel around the country, which is a village near the border with France. In the area there are many spectacular mountain hotels and flats for a quiet stay.
However, if you like to have a lot of people, restaurants and shops, it is best to stay near the capital. Find the best options below:
